Pima Community College men’s soccer player Hugo Kametani has been named the best player at the junior college level.
Kametani, a sophomore forward, was selected the 2018 United Soccer Coaches Junior College Division I National Player of the Year. Kametani is the first Pima men’s soccer player in program history to receive this honor.
Kametani scored the game-winning goal to give the Aztecs their first NJCAA Division I National Championship. He scored a program-record 30 goals, seven of which were game-winners.
Pima coach Dave Cosgrove has stated Kametani was the best player in the history of the program. Pima finished the season 26-2 and national champions, the school’s first.
“I’m so happy right now to receive this honor,” Kametani said through Pima College. “I want to thank all of the people who have been involved with me. I think that it is proof that I have kept working and putting in effort. Although it is an individual honor, I think that this was taken by all members of the team.”
