The positive way to look at this year’s ticket sales for the NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl between Arkansas State and Nevada is that 34,000 tickets were reportedly allocated as of yesterday without either team having bowl-starved fans.
The negative way to look at it is the bowl might fall short of last year’s record number of 39,132 when New Mexico State (experiencing its first bowl since 1960) played Utah State. The goal for today’s game at 11:15 a.m. at Arizona Stadium was to reach at least 40,000.
That might be a difficult plateau to reach.

Nevertheless, the Arizona Bowl is holding its own with ticket sales compared to more established bowls. If the at least 34,000 tickets sold to this point is the correct number, it would be more than 15 of the bowls already played this year.
Last year, the Arizona Bowl was in the top 10 in terms of attendance of non-New Year’s bowls or bowls affiliated with the BCS. It finished at No. 9, ahead of the likes of the Las Vegas Bowl, Cactus Bowl, Independence Bowl, New Mexico Bowl and Foster Farms Bowl.
The following is a listing of last year’s bowl attendance figures of the bowls before New Year’s Day that aren’t affiliated with the BCS:
