Transfers are more common than ever in college basketball, especially the graduate-transfer variety, so make of it what you will about Sean Miller experiencing his ninth transfer by a player — the reported departure of Emmanuel Akot — out of the program since Miller started at Arizona in 2009-10.
Evan Daniels of 247Sports reported through information from a source tonight that Akot, a sophomore forward, has quit the program and will transfer.
Akot is the first player to transfer from Miller’s program since Justin Simon left for St. John’s after the 2015-16 season.
According to Daniels’ report, Akot plans to leave after the second semester and will have two years of eligibility.
Akot, a 6-foot-7, 200-pound wing prospect, averaged 3.8 points in 19.4 minutes of action this season for the Wildcats. A former five-star prospect out of Mt. Pleasant (Utah) Wasatch Academy, he started 11 of Arizona’s 17 games this season.

He is the third five-star recruit to leave the program prematurely to play elsewhere. Simon was a five-star recruit as was Josiah Turner, who transferred after the 2011-12 season to SMU. Turner would never play for the Mustangs, opting to try a professional career instead.
