Two Southern Arizona baseball teams advancing yesterday to today’s quarterfinals of the Class 3A state tournament — Sabino and Sahuarita — each shut out their opponent yesterday at the Surprise Sports Complex.
Sabino, the No. 6 seed, defeated No. 11 Gilbert Christian 10-0 in five innings and No. 4 Sahuarita topped No. 13 Odyssey Institute 4-0.

The Sabercats play No. 14 Fountain Hills today at 11 a.m. at Surprise. Sahuarita plays at the same time and place against No. 5 Yuma Catholic.
No. 16 Catalina lost yesterday to No. 1 Valley Christian 5-0.

Morgan Altherr went 2 for 3 with three RBIs, including a home run, and Andres Villasenor went 3 for 3 with two RBIs for Sabino in its win over Gilbert Christian. Andrew Galloway allowed for hits with five strikeouts and no walks in five innings.

Catalina was held to two hits in its loss. Michael Romero struck out nine batters in five innings of work for Catalina.
2A State Tournament
No. 3 Bisbee is still alive in the Class 2A state tournament following its 10-6 win over No. 14 Scottsdale Prep yesterday at Goodyear.
No. 13 St. Augustine was not as fortunate, losing 11-0 to No. 4 Thatcher. No. 16 Tombstone also lost 10-0 to No. 1 Scottsdale Christian and No. 7 Benson lost 4-2 to No. 10 Morenci.

Bisbee (20-7) will play a quarterfinal game today at 11 a.m. against No. 6 Alchesay at Goodyear. The Pumas are led by Eduardo Vasquez, who is batting .671 with 10 doubles, 10 triples and 51 RBIs. Vasquez had two hits with a triple, two RBIs and run in the win Friday.
David Ballesteros went 3-for-3 at the plate with two run, 2 RBIs and three stolen bases. Franciso Urcadez struck out eight batters in six winnings to notch the win for Bisbee.
1A State Tournament
No. 6 Baboquivari of Sells advanced to the quarterfinals of the Class 1A State tournament with a 10-6 win over No. 11 St. David on Friday at Goodyear.
Baboquivari (17-7) is led by Zavier Romero, a freshman who is batting .490 with seven doubles and 18 RBIs.
