Trio of former Ironwood Ridge baseball standouts named to Division II Collegiate Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-Region teams.
Jake Engel (Dixie State) started in 52 of 53 games played this past season and batted .385 with a team-highs of 14 home runs and 52 RBI. He finished with 72 total base hits, including eight doubles and three triples to go with 56 runs scored. Engel hit safely in 42 of 53 games this season, including all four RMAC tournament games last week (five-game hitting streak overall), during which he hit an even .500 (8-for-16) with one double, one homer and five RBI on his way to earning all-tournament honors. Engel also collected at least one hit in 27 of 32 RMAC games and hit .372 against conference opponents (45-for-121) with two triples, eight homers and 35 RBI, and was named RMAC Player of the Week on April 2.
Drew Hill (Colorado School of Mines) is 8-2 to date with a program record 107 strikeouts. Hill’s ERA sits at 3.82 with a team-best WHIP of 1.21 over 73 innings. His single-season strikeout count is also approaching the RMAC’s top-10 list as the right-hander just needs two more whiffs to slide into a tie for No. 10. Additionally, Hill boasts three complete games including one shutout. He is fresh off back-to-back, complete-game efforts which included a nine-inning victory in the RMAC Tournament against MSU Denver. Hill was also named to the RMAC All-Tournament team after taking home First-Team All-RMAC distinction and RMAC Pitcher of the Week accolades earlier this season.
Nick Estrella (Azusa pacific) earned All-PacWest honors for the second time in his career after he was a third team utility-pitcher selection last year. This season, Estrella has a 9-1 record, which ranks 12th in Division II in wins by a pitcher, with a 3.35 ERA over 13 starts and 75.1 innings pitched. Estrella ranks in the top-10 of the PacWest in ERA, opponent batting average (.239), innings pitched, strikeouts (63), and pickoffs (4).

Andy Morales was recognized by the AIA as the top high school reporter in 2014 and he was awarded the Ray McNally Award in 2017 and he has been a youth, high school and college coach for over 30 years. His own children have won multiple state high school championships and were named to all-state teams. Competing in hockey, basketball, baseball and track & field in high school, his unique perspective can only be found here and on AZPreps365.com. Andy is the Southern Arizona voting member of the Ed Doherty Award, recognizing the top football player in Arizona, and he was named a Local Hero by the Tucson Weekly for 2016.
