Little League All-Stars Day 5 Results: Oro Valley hits 3 homers to stay alive in District 5

Day 5 of the Little League All-Stars competition was a busy one with 14 games played at four parks. District 5 is starting to wind down and District 12 is just starting so Saturday will be another busy day with 14 more games scheduled with four championships on the line.

In Little League Baseball action from District 5, Oro Valley connected on three home runs against CDO to advance to the Championship Bracket scheduled to start on Monday, June 24 at Mehl Park. Oro Valley (2-1) will face the winner of Western (1-1) and Thornydale (3-1) in the bottom half of the double-elimination bracket and Canyon View (2-0) and Sabino Canyon (3-0) will go up against each other in the upper-half of the bracket.

CDO (1-2) took a 1-0 lead over Oro Valley in the bottom of the second after Sean Young connected on a leadoff double, advanced to third on a passed ball and then scampered home on another passed ball. Oro Valley tied the game up in the top of the fourth on a solo shot from Eddie Guerrero with two outs.

CDO responded with three runs in the bottom of the fourth after Zane Giron hit a double, Young hit an RBI single and Brendan Lawrence followed with another RBI single. Lawrence scored on an error later in the inning for the third run.

Down 4-1, Dane White hit a 3-run home run to tie the game up 4-4 in the top of the fifth but Ethan Devine doubled and scored on an RBI groundout by Austin McGhee to put CDO back up 5-4 heading into the sixth inning.

Max Hendrix started the Oro Valley rally off after he reached on a hit-by-pitch and then Zane Moffit singled to left to put two on for Keanu Bracamonte. Bracamonte delivered on a 3-run shot of his own and Oro Valley led 7-5. Down to their last at bats, Giron hit a line drive to the gap but White came up with a diving catch to keep CDO off the bases and it proved to be a big catch after Young came up next and hit a home run to cut the lead down to 7-6.

White came up with another catch in centerfield and Oro Valley held on for the 7-6 win. Hendrix got the start for Oro Valley and Moffit picked up the save in the sixth. McGhee took the mound for CDO and Young also saw some pitching action.

Young went 3-for-3 with a double, home run and two RBI to lead CDO at the plate
