The Sunnyside Senior Little All-League All-Stars continued their barrage of home runs in the state tournament in Payson on Thursday with three more, including two by Gerardo Grijalva, in a 16-5 win in five innings over Nogales in the championship game.
Martin Bañuelos added another home run in Sunnyside’s 17-hit barrage.
Sunnyside, which went 4-0 and outscored opponents 62-20 in the state tournament, advances to the West Regional at Sacramento from July 18-24.
Sunnyside belted 13 home runs in the state tournament. Grijalva had four of them and Bañuelos added two. Both attend Sunnyside High School.
Grijalva went 3 for 4 with two runs and four RBIs against Nogales on Thursday. He was also the winning pitcher going the five innings and striking out seven without any walks.
Roman Cañez finished 3 for 4 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Wyatt Stockam and Kris Quiroz both went 2 for 3 with a double, run and RBI.
Nogales hit three home runs in the game by Victor Coronado, Demetrio Crisantes and Albert Dominguez.
