Former Lancer Donny Sands to play in the MLB Arizona Fall League

Donny Sands (Tampa Tarpons)

Former Empire and Salpointe standout Donny Sands is set to play for the Surprise Saguaros of the MLB Arizona Fall League.

Drafted by the Yankees in the 8th Round of the 2015 draft, Sands is currently on the Class A-Advanced Tampa Tarpons roster as a catcher. Typically, top Minor League prospects are moved over to the Arizona Fall League as part of the process to prepare for the Majors.

Opening day is set for September 17, the “Fall Stars Game” is set for October 12 and the championship is set for October 27. MLB clubs nominated players to take part in the Fall League for the first time with seven players from each club allotted. Each team will play 30 games.

Players from the Yankees, Orioles, Royals, Rangers and Nationals make up the 36-man roster for the Surprise Saguaros. Home games are slated for the Peoria Sports Complex.
