With Salpointe Catholic in the newly formed Open Division — no surprise there — that opened the door for other Southern Arizona teams to move up in the 4A state playoff seedings.
Scott McKee’s Sahuaro team has earned the No. 1 seed in the bracket at 8-2. The Cougars will host No. 16 Glendale (8-2) on Friday at 7 p.m.
Canyon del Oro, which lost 19-17 at Casa Grande last night, will be the No. 3 seed in the tournament with an 8-2 record hosting Tempe Marcos de Niza (5-5) on Friday at 7 p.m.
No. 5 Walden Grove (9-1) will host No. 12 Casa Grande (6-4) in a rematch Friday. The Cougars are the only team to beat the Red Wolves this season. This time, the teams meet at Walden Grove.
Pueblo coach Brandon Sanders has his team in the playoffs at 8-2 as the No. 11 seed playing at No. 6 Mesquite (7-3) on Friday at 7 p.m.
