Local Schools Suspend Spring Competition Amid COVID-19 Concerns

Spring sports competitions at Marana and Mountain View high schools have been suspended indefinitely because of concerns over the COVID-19 crisis that has been declared a national emergency.

Competitions involving those schools were canceled today.

Marana and Mountain VIew are in the Marana School District.

Sunnyside has canceled the Mario Castro Track and Field Invitational that was to take place March 27.

The Arizona Interscholastic Association sent out a statement yesterday that the decision for cancellations and suspensions of competition is up to the schools and school districts and it will comply with those decisions.

An AIA meeting has been scheduled for Monday to discuss scheduling concerns about the coronavirus pandemic.
