Arizona Dominates ESPN’s All-Time College Softball Team

As voted on by the public, ESPN released the Greatest All-Time College Softball Team and several members with Arizona ties made the cut. The University of Arizona dominated with three selections: Jennie Finch, Caitlin Lowe and Leah O’Brien-Amico:

LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL

Former Salpointe standout Tairia Mims Flowers (UCLA) came in eighth place in the Utility category but she was selected as the starter at first base by ESPN.

Former Scottsdale Chaparral pitcher Susie Parra (Arizona) came in eighth place in the Right-Handed Pitcher category and former Glendale Cactus standout Stacie Chambers (Arizona) came in fourth in the Catcher position.

In addition, former Canyon del Oro coach (2003-2004) Amy Chellevold Hillenbrand (Arizona) came in fourth in the First Base category.

Andy Morales was recognized by the AIA as the top high school reporter in 2014, he was awarded the Ray McNally Award in 2017, a 2019 AZ Education News award winner and he has been a youth, high school and college coach for over 30 years. He was the first in Arizona to write about high school beach volleyball and high school girls wrestling. His own children have won multiple state high school championships and were named to all-state teams.
