James Jackson has left his head coaching position of the girls basketball team at Sunnyside High School to fill the same role at Sabino.
The Sabercats are the defending Class 3A state champions, although coaches Jaamal Rhodes and Jeremy Daniels and standouts Kiya Dorroh, Kamryn Doty and Kam’Ren Rhodes to left to open-division program AZ Compass at Gilbert.
Jackson leaves Sunnyside after four years as the head coach. He compiled a 37-63 record and gradually improved year to year. This season, the Blue Devils finished 14-14, their first non-losing season since finishing 12-12 in 2015-16.
Jackson helped coach and mentor Sunnyside standout Angelina Alcantar, an 1,000-point scorer who signed with Arizona Christian University.
