Tucson High Alum Eric Langford Returns to Coach Badgers Boys Basketball

Eric Langford is returning home to Tucson High School where he was a two-time all-region selection and averaged 25.3 points a game as a senior in 1990-91.

On the 30th anniversary of his graduation, Langford will coach the Badgers’ boys basketball team. He takes over for Daryl Jones, who was let go after one season as the head coach and has since been hired to lead the Sabino boys program.

Langford recently was a coach at Leading Edge Academy at Gilbert.

Langford, 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds when he played, excelled at Grand Canyon from 1994-96 after playing at Eastern Arizona College from 1991-93. In his career with Grand Canyon, spanning 57 games, he averaged 16.6 points and 6.8 rebounds.

Mexico was among his professional stops.

While at Tucson High, Langford was a teammate of Arizona football great Sean Harris .

His dad Kelly Langford was a football and track star at Tucson High in the early 1970s and went on to success in track at Arizona. The elder Langford coached basketball and track at Tucson High before becoming a principal for Vail Middle School in 1989. He is now the senior academic officer for student services at the Tucson Unified School District and the president of the Tucson Urban League.
