The Tucson Hurricanes emerged from this weekend’s Baseball Showcase 13U tournament at Gilbert with a 4-0 record, earning their pool-play title.
Head coach Paul Piñedo, who has coached Sunnyside Little League teams to regional tournaments in the previous two years, coached the Hurricanes to the title. His son Orlando Piñedo is a first baseman on the team.
Another son, Diego Piñedo, a catcher, played for him with Sunnyside LL and is now attending Sunnyside High School and will play for the Blue Devils.
The Tucson Hurricanes 13U assistants are Armando Vasquez, Ryan Mazura, Mike Muñiz and Victor Garcia.
