Sunnyside’s home game with Desert View — a neighborhood rivalry billed “The Duel in the District” — on Friday night has been canceled because of a positive COVID-19 test involving one of the Blue Devils, according to multiple sources.
Per Sunnyside School District policy, the Blue Devils must quarantine for 14 days. That means Sunnyside’s game next week at Tucson has been canceled.
Members of Sunnyside and Desert View’s staffs are hopeful the Duel in the District can be rescheduled.
Two other games scheduled for tomorrow have been canceled — Laveen Cesar Chavez at Cienega and Nogales at Tucson. Cienega and Nogales each reported positive COVID-19 cases.
