Will the last person on the University of Arizona football team please shut the lights?
Two more – big names, too – have apparently left the building. Or are planning to. And now a third.
Quarterback Grant Gunnell and former high school friend turned Wildcats Boobie Curry apparently have decided to enter the transfer portal or are about to. Gunnell reportedly has. Transfer offensive lineman Robert Congel has put his name in the portal.
Apparently, they aren’t patient enough to see who the next UA coach will be. And, well, they both were close to Sumlin/Noel Mazzone, given the two were straight out of Texas.
Colleague Matt Moreno of GoAzCats.com had the story of Gunnell’s decision to look elsewhere.
If people thought UA’s 70-7 was rock bottom, well, think again. The talent that is left will show the program continues its free fall. Just a couple of days ago, Stanley Berryhill said he too would leave the program, in addition to a number of others and a few recruits who de-committed to the program.
Arizona’s Dave Heeke needs to find a coach, and, quickly.
