Arizona lands high-profile Class of 2022 recruit

Elite Class of 2022 prospect Kailyn Gilbert of Tampa, Fla., announced Monday night via Twitter she is headed to Arizona to play for Adia Barnes’ program.

Gilbert is a 5-foot-8 talent who attends Seffner (Fla.) Christian Academy. She is the No. 6 guard and No. 18 prospect in her class, according to ESPN. She also considered Georgia, Louisville, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Miami.

Gilbert led the state and finished fifth nationally in scoring with an average of 32.1 points per game last season at Tampa Prep. She also averaged an impressive 11.2 rebounds per game.

She was named the Florida Dairy Farmers Class 3A state player of the year. The winners in each classification were selected by a panel of high school girls basketball coaches and reporters.

“It was really big for me,” Gilbert told Prime Time Preps of being the 3A player of the year. “I have a lot of goals that sometimes look and sound impossible, but I keep working hard, and I know good things will come like this award.

“It’s only the beginning. I’m constantly motivated to be the best, and I won’t stop until I reach it.”

During a two-game stretch last season, Gilbert scored a combined 96 points, including 50 in a win.
