Arizona No. 2 seed and No. 8 team overall in NCAA’s top 16 reveal


Arizona is the No. 2 seed in Region 1 that includes top-seed Connecticut in the first reveal Monday of the top 16 by the NCAA tournament selection committee.

The Wildcats (14-2) are the No. 8 team overall.

Connecticut (16-1) is the top-ranked team in the country in the AP Top 25 poll. Arizona is ranked No. 10 by the AP.

Region 1 includes No. 3 seed Baylor (16-2) and No. 4 seed Tennessee (12-5).

The other Pac-12 teams in the top 16 reveal include Stanford (18-2) as the top seed in Region 3, UCLA (12-3) as the No. 3 seed in Region 2 and Oregon (12-4) as the No. 3 seed in Region 4.

The next top 16 reveal will take place on March 1.

The NCAA tournament will be confined to Texas because of COVID-19. It begins with the first round March 21-22. Games in that round will be in San Antonio, Austin and San Marcos. The remainder of the tournament will be in San Antonio.

The NCAA has not announced its plan for fans to attend.
