Arizona loses to Air Force after schedule change

Information from the Arizona media relations department contributed to this report:

Weather caused the cancelation of Arizona’s schedule game with Wichita State on Saturday at Hi Corbett Field and forced the Wildcats to play Air Force instead later in the evening.

The Wildcats (11-4) lost to the Falcons 5-2, their second consecutive loss after they won 10 straight games. Arizona will play a second game against Air Force (6-5) at 2 p.m. on Sunday before opening Pac-12 play next weekend at UCLA.

Despite turning in one of his best outings of the young season, Arizona starting pitcher Garrett Irvin (0-1) took the loss. He worked a season-high 5 2/3 innings and allowed three runs on three hits while striking out three.

The Wildcats’ lineup was stifled in the early innings and didn’t pick up their first hit until a Daniel Susac double in the sixth inning. Tony Bullard drove in Susac on an RBI triple to put Arizona on the board, and Donta’ Williams followed with an RBI single to account for their second and final run.

The Wildcats enjoyed their largest crowd of the season, welcoming 695 fans into Hi Corbett for the third ticketed game of the season.
