Arizona-bound Logan Cole of Salpointe one of six local Class 2022 Division I commits


Salpointe Class of 2022 standout shortstop Logan Cole already has two state championships and has a chance to get another one before heading to Mike Candrea’s program at Arizona.

Cole, who batted .560 for the champion Lancers this season, is one of six local Class of 2022 prospects — five of them in softball — who have committed to Division I programs.

The softball standouts are Cole (Arizona), Catalina Foothills pitcher Kyrie Denny (Cornell) and shortstop teammate Rylie Crane (Wisconsin), CDO second baseman/outfielder Alina Felix (Nebraska) and Ironwood Ridge catcher Haidyn Warner (Nebraska).

Buena point guard Alani Encinas has committed to Portland State’s basketball program.

Cole compiled four home runs, two triples,16 doubles and 25 RBIs for the Lancers, who finished 24-0 overall, capped by a 5-4 win over Vista Grande in the Class 4A state championship May 17 at Hillenbrand Stadium.

She has batted .548 in her career with 37 doubles, seven triples and five home runs. She has 121 hits and 52 RBIs in 221 at-bats.
