Arizona first to offer Salpointe Class of 2024 lineman Luis Cordova

Salpointe offensive lineman Luis Cordova, who stands at 6-foot-4 and 270 pounds despite being only 15, is the third Class of 2024 local prospect to receive a scholarship offer from Arizona coach Jedd Fisch.

Cordova, who came on to the scene locally as a 14U Tucson Youth Football All-Star in 2019, joins Salpointe teammate Elijah Rushing, a defensive end, and CDO tackle Sa’Kylee Woodard as the Class of 2024 standouts drawing the recruiting eye of Fisch and his assistants.

Cordova announced his scholarship offer via Twitter:

Another local lineman, Class of 2023 defensive tackle Jack Endean of Tanque Verde, has also received a scholarship offer from Arizona.

Salpointe receiver Elijah Barclay, a senior this upcoming season, is another local product who the Wildcat coaching staff has offered.

When Fisch was hired at Arizona in December, he said of local recruiting: “We need to swarm the state of Arizona. We need to own the state of Arizona.”

That has been spoken before by Arizona football coaches, but in 2019, the Wildcats were passed over by Salpointe standouts Bijan Robinson (Texas), Lathan Ransom (Ohio State) and Bruno Fina (UCLA) for other Division I programs without much of an attempt by Arizona’s coaching staff to recruit them.

It appears that Fisch and his staff want to lay the recruiting groundwork early in the careers of local high school standouts, a much-needed direction.
