Sahuaro High School Class of 2019 lineman Kingsley Ugwu, a member of Hutchinson (Kan.) Junior College’s NJCAA national championship team, announced Friday he has committed to Kansas State.
Ugwu, a towering 6-foot-4 and 305-pound tackle, was a recruiting target of Baylor, Texas Tech and Colorado, among others. He said Arizona defensive analyst Beyah Rasool, a former Rincon/University standout, was also in communication with him.
He is the son of former Arizona football player Chima Ugwu, who competed in the 1996 Olympics for his native Nigeria in the shot put. Ugwu was a defensive tackle recruited by Dick Tomey.

Ugwu said he is “humbled, yet proud of myself” for sticking to his goal of elevating his skills at Hutchinson for larger opportunities at the FBS level of college football, particularly with a Power 5 program.
“So far I feel like I’ve done everything that I said I would,” he said.
Ugwu is also an accomplished student with a 3.19 GPA.
