The FC Tucson 19U team clinched a spot in the quarterfinals of the U.S. Youth Soccer Far West Regional Championships at Boise, Idaho, with two goals scored by Catalina Foothills’ Caitlyn Maher in a 2-1 win Tuesday over Long Beach (Calif.) Beach Futbol Club.
FC Tucson, coached by Pima men’s soccer coach David Cosgrove, improved to 2-0 in Bracket B of the tournament. Its last game in bracket play is Wednesday at 4 p.m. against the Boise Timbers.
The quarterfinals begin Friday.
FC Tucson 17U, 0-1 in the tournament, plays Wednesday in its bracket at noon against Utah Soccer Alliance USA Metro Premier.
