Little League Softball: Continental Ranch takes lead in 10U series with Thornydale

Continental Ranch outlasted Thornydale 15-14 Thursday night at Flowing Wells Park to go up 1-0 on the team from Marana in 8-10 Softball action. The best-of-three series continues Friday night at 6:30 p.m. with the third game, if needed, slated for Saturday night at 6:30 p.m.

The Arizona State Tournament for this level will take place in Cottonwood starting on July 9. There is no region play at this level and only the majors divisions will have a World Series this summer.

Continental Ranch jumped out to a 6-1 lead after two innings of play but Thornydale exploded for 13 runs in the top of the third to seemingly take control of the game but Continental Ranch got two back in their half of the third and seven more runs came through in the fifth for the 15-14 win.

Mia Corona took the circle for Continental Ranch and she gave way to Simone Alexander in the third but Corona returned to action in the fourth to earn the victory. Corona finished with seven strikeouts including two in the top of the sixth to close the door on another comeback from Thornydale. Alexander added two strikeouts to help end the run by Thornydale in the third.

From the top of the order for Continental Ranch, Corona went 2-2 at the plate with two walks and an RBI; Alexander went 2-4 with a double and three RBI; Teagan Man had a single, RBI and a walk; Olivia Carrasso had a triple and a walk; Sadie Monceaux-Valenzuela walked twice; Karley Dominguez had a single; Maribella Pedrego walked; Arianna Monceaux-Valenzuela singled; Savanna Gum walked twice; Brinkley King picked up a hit and Payton Wilson walked. Presley Pfau and Saniya Corrales also saw action for Continental Ranch.

For Thornydale, Hadley English threw five innings with nine strikeouts and Kenzie Scott added another strikeout from the circle.

Liberty Miller went 3-5 with an RBI; Ashlin Salmon walked twice; English went 2-3 with a triple a walk and 2 RBI; Scott went 2-3 with 2 RBI and a walk; Jillian Iiams went 2-3 with an RBI and a walk; Mariah Dominguez went 2-3 with 2 RBI; Gianna Escalante had a 2 RBI double; Ryann Pogue had an RBI single; Sophia Calderon had a single and McKenna Szelewski, Giselle Hugues and Adline Whaley also saw action.

District 5 will host the State Junior and Senior Softball Tournaments at Arthur Pack starting on July 5. District 12 will host the State 8-10 Baseball Tournament at Field of Dreams starting on July 17.
