Male Athlete of the Month: Former CDO track & field athlete Turner Washington

Turner Washington started his college career at Arizona but transferred to ASU in 2018 because he wanted to train with the Sun Devils’ distance throwing coach (ASU photo)

Former Canyon del Oro and Arizona distance thrower Turner Washington is our Male Athlete of the Month for June for his NCAA Division I titles in the shot put and the discus.

Classified as a sophomore at ASU, he topped all others with a mark of 21.10 meters (69 feet, 2.75 inches) in the shot put on June 10 and then the discus (63.42/208-1) a day later at the Outdoor Championships at Eugene, Ore.’ Washington won the Indoor title in March. His victory in the shot put and discus automatically qualifies him as a First Team All-American.

Washington set an indoor shot put record of 21.81 (71-6.75) in the spring.
