Salpointe Class of 2022 infielder Mason White, a highly rated prospect by Baseball Showcase and Perfect Game, committed Wednesday morning to join Chip Hale’s program at Arizona.
White is a left-handed hitter who is known for his athleticism at shortstop for the Lancers. He is the son of former Arizona pitching standout Ben White, who holds the school career record for Pac-12 games played (47) from 1993-96. He was Arizona’s leader in ERA (4.62) and saves (six) in 1996.
Mason White led the Lancers to the 4A state title game this spring batting .354 with four home runs and 31 RBIs. He also had eight doubles and a triple. He had a defensive fielding percentage of .962.

He is the first local commitment of Hale, who was officially hired as Arizona’s coach last week after Jay Johnson left to LSU.
Ironwood Ridge outfielder/catcher Nicholas Warren committed to the Wildcats last August and has kept that pledge after the coaching change.
Perfect Game’s assessment of Mason White: “A 2022 SS/2B/3B with a 5-10 175-pound frame from Tucson who attends Salpointe Catholic. Medium athletic build, prototypical middle infielder’s look. Very athletic and balanced on defense, works through the ball with confidence in flair, very good hands, likes playing on the move and can throw from any slot, stood out in the games on defense. Left handed hitter, hits from a balanced open stance with a hanging leg lift trigger, hits under control, has good hand quickness and strength, very accurate barrel, works line drive from the pull side to mid field. Polished player who performed. Good student. Named to the PG All-American Underclass Games Top Prospect List.”
Baseball Showcase wrote of White: “A sweety swinging lefty out of Tucson … He consistently barreled up balls and showed at a young age he already has some real pop. … Defensively, White can get the job done at SS or 3B. On the bases he shows good baseball smarts and game awareness. … An athlete who can swing it from the left side.”
