“They just gotta come back and compete (against District 8 champ Sierra Vista),” Canyon View manager Zak Anderson said. “It was a great game. They competed all the way to the end. I’m hopeful they’ll show up against Sierra Vista and do their best.

“We have a really good group of kids who will compete, and I expect them to do that. They have great attitudes. They’ve got just a natural desire to want to do well.”

Canyon View’s Luke Newman went 3 for 3 with a run and was also effective as the starting pitcher, going two scoreless innings with two strikeouts and no walks. Miles Anderson had five strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings of relief and had an RBI at the plate.
