District 12 champion San Xavier captured the Arizona Little League Juniors state baseball championship with a 7-3 victory over Nogales on Wednesday night at War Memorial Stadium in Nogales.
Carlos Alvarez and George Acuña each went 2 for 4 for San Xavier. Acuña hit a double and triple and scored a run and Alvarez had two runs. Francisco Navarro also had a double and a run.
San Xavier added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on a two-out RBI single hit by Damion Murrietta.
Acuña, Navarro and Josiah Santana each pitched for San Xavier. Santana shut the door, pitching the last two innings.
San Xavier’s state title is the third achieved by a Southern Arizona team this summer, following Sierra Vista’s Seniors title and Nogales’ Intermediate 50/70 championship.
