Canyon del Oro senior pitcher Julia Holt announced her commitment to play for Howard University on Sunday. Howard is located in Washington, D.C. and the Bison compete in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).

“I’m very excited to announce that I have committed to play D1 softball and further my academic career at Howard University,” Holt wrote on her announcement. “I want to thank my parents, coaches, and teammates who have pushed me to become the best version of myself.”

Holt’s father, Julius Holt, grew up in Washington, D.C. and he earned junior college All-American honors at Ellsworth located in Iowa before former University of Arizona head coach Larry Smith brought him to Tucson in 1980 to help build the legendary Wildcat defense that would rule the conference in the 1980s.

“The opportunity to bring my talents to an HBCU with such deep culture and history means so much to me and my family,” Holt added. “I’m excited to play for coach Tori Tyson and be able to grow and learn from her great expertise. It’s truly a blessing and I can’t wait to be a Bison.”

Her mother, Lisa Holt, won a state championship pitching for St. Paul High School in Whittier, California.
