Ironwood Ridge girls beat Walden Grove 1-0 Saturday afternoon to capture the championship of the Brandon Bean Invitational. The Nighthawks went 3-0-1 at the invitational named for a former Salpointe player who passed away on 1992 after an on-field collision at a soccer scrimmage.

The Red Wolves had more chances on the pitch Saturday with 11 shots on goal to five for the Nighthawks but Ironwood Ridge keeper Amanda Hartzler recorded seven saves in the final match which held Walden Grove at bay and Kylie Melonis took an offering from Solaris Graves in the 48th minute for the win.
For her efforts Hartzler was named Keeper of the Tournament and Walden Grove standout Meredith Scott earned Field Player of the Tournament in an award given in honor former Salpointe player Laura Kea who died in an auto accident on her way to a soccer tournament.

Walden Grove is now 4-1 with regular season matches starting on Tuesday with a visit to Desert View (2-2). Ironwood Ridge will host Cienega (0-0) on Dec. 14.
