SAM’S CORNER: Christmastime special with loved ones

Hey Wildcat fans,

I am currently writing this while heading back to Tucson. We were able to spend Christmas this year with our families. Unfortunately because of COVID last year we didn’t get the chance to go home. I am so glad that this year was different and we could be with our loved ones. I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and stayed safe.

As some of you may know our game against UCLA got cancelled due to COVID protocols within UCLA’s program. In the beginning of the year a cancelled game was going to result in a forfeit but now with everything getting crazy with the new variant, they changed the protocols and now the league will reschedule our games. We don’t know when the rescheduled game will be but we are glad we still get to play. Our game against USC is still happening and that will be our first Pac-12 game of the season.

A few columns ago I wrote about getting my Secret Santa gift in my family. Well now that Christmas is over I can share that I had my mom. She asked for a nail kit with gel nail polish. I got her that along with a mini punching bag. When she came to visit me in Tucson a few weeks ago she saw the punching dummy that we have in our locker room that we hit before we run out to play our games. She saw it mentioned how she always wanted one. I looked online and they were a little out of my price range so I got her a mini one. My favorite gift that I got or I should say we all got were matching pajamas. We have never done those in my family so it was fun to try it one time. I can answer for Proxy and saw her favorite toy was a mini soccer ball that she got and she tore it up within the first 5 minutes that she got it.

Overall, it was a great Christmas and my grandparents came out from Ohio for a few days to spend time with us which was really nice because we barely get to see them since they live so far and we are all in sports nonstop. Now that Christmas is over, it’s time to get back to work and get ready for the Pac-12!
