WINTER PLAYOFF SCHEDULE
The Pusch Ridge girls soccer team got the winter playoffs for Southern Arizona off to a good start with a 1-0 win at Odyssey Institute located in Buckeye. The Minotaurs came in as the higher seed at No. 13 but the Lions got the job done despite a No. 20 ranking thanks to a goal from Olivia Maxfield.
Pusch Ridge is ranked No. 16 now and will travel to play No. 1 Queen Creek Franklin in the 3A State Playoffs slated for Wednesday, Feb. 9. No. 4 Sabino will host No. 13 Chandler Valley Christian.
On the boy’s side, No. 18 Pusch Ridge upset No. 15 Bourgade Catholic 2-0 on goals from Trey Lustenberger and Joaquin Borboa. The game was played at Pusch Ridge instead of Phoenix because Pusch Ridge is a region champion. The Lions are seeded No. 15 in the state tournament and will travel to No. 2 Thatcher.
