Sunnyside scored 105 points to win the Section III tournament held Saturday at Flowing Wells High School. Pueblo took second with 70 points and Buena came in third place with 69.5 points.
Five wrestlers from Sunnyside will advance to the state tournament scheduled to take place at the Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum starting on Friday, Feb. 18. and the finals are scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 19 at 5 p.m. The brackets will be completed on Sunday, Feb. 6.
Bisbee junior Adacelli Noriega won the 120-pound weight class and she will return to the state tournament after missing last year due to COVID restrictions. Noriega won an individual state championship as a freshman in 2020 and she was the first from Southern Arizona to do so. Sunnyside sophomore Audrey Jimenez won the 107 weight-class and she became the first individual champion from the Tucson area as a freshman last year.
Mountain View will host the Boys Division II/Section IV tournament next Saturday.

Andy Morales was recognized by the AIA as the top high school reporter in 2014, he was awarded the Ray McNally Award in 2017, a 2019 AZ Education News award winner and he has been a youth, high school and college coach for over 30 years. He was the first in Arizona to write about high school beach volleyball and high school girls wrestling. His own children have won multiple state high school championships and were named to all-state teams. Andy is the Southern Arizona voting member of the Ed Doherty Award, recognizing the top football player in Arizona, and he was named a Local Hero by the Tucson Weekly for 2016. Andy was named an Honorary Flowing Wells Caballero in 2019, became a member of the Sunnyside Los Mezquites Cross Country Hall of Fame in 2021 and he was a member of the Amphi COVID-19 Blue Ribbon Committee and he earned a Distinguished Service Award from Amphitheater.
