No. 1 seed Salpointe had four players score in double figures led by Julian Riesgo’s 18 points in the Lancers’ 71-44 win Tuesday night over No. 16 Rio Rico in a 4A state playoff first-round game.
The Lancers (24-2) advance to the quarterfinals Friday at 7 p.m., when they will host No. 8 Glendale Cactus, which won at home over No. 9 Sahuaro 59-53 on Tuesday.
Rio Rico finished its season 9-16.

Dillan Baker had all 14 of his points in the first half against Rio Rico. James Smotherman and Canyon Torres each had 10 points.
Job Villanueva led Rio Rico with 15 points.
Salpointe is in its first season under head coach Eric Castillo, a longtime assistant who was elevated to his current position after Jim Reynolds retired after last season’s state semifinals appearance.
The Lancers won their first state title in school history at the end of the 2019-20 season.
