Gallego Intermediate wins Sunnyside School District middle-school girls hoops title

Gallego Fine Arts Intermediate rallied from an eight-point deficit to start the fourth quarter to defeat Apollo Middle School 33-30 on Tuesday night in the championship game of the Sunnyside School District Middle School Tournament at Gallego.

The two schools played for the title two years ago and Apollo prevailed in that matchup at Desert View. A tournament was not held last year because of COVID-19 protocols.

Gallego includes Janae Watts, a daughter of Sunnyside great Jermaine Watts, who went on to play at DePaul. His oldest daughter Jordan, a freshman at Salpointe, won a state title with the Lancers last week.
