Northern Arizona swept the Big Sky Track and Field championships this week with former Sabino standout Jade Kwinn claiming the Javelin Throw with a distance of 49.32 meters (161-09 feet). Madison Tareski of Eastern Washington took second (46.19).
“My throw of 49.32 qualified me for regionals,” Kwinn said. “I was so relaxed and all I thought about was the javelin in my hand. I couldn’t be prouder of myself and my teammate Piper.”
Kwinn’s teammate Piper Pfister took seventh (43.25).
Former Flowing Wells standout Mitchell Effing took second in the Long Jump (7.57) and sixth in the Triple Jump (15.31) to help lead the NAU men to victory.
The NCAA West Regional is slated for May 26-28 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Hayward Field in Oregon will host Nationals from June 8-11.
“It took a lot of lifting, training almost everyday and the reminder that I am still learning,” Kwinn added.
