Little League All-Stars: Nogales advances to Senior League Semifinal round; Junior League Softball Update

Nogales beat Washington 7-5 in the quarterfinal round of the Senior League West Regional tournament taking place in Oakland. Nogales (2-1) will take on Southern California (2-1) Tuesday morning in the first semifinal game of the day. A victory over So. Cal will send the Arizona champion to the championship semifinal scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday night.

Thornydale beat Utah 15-2 Monday night at the Arthur Pack Complex in the consolation round of the Junior West Regional hosted by Arizona District 5. The victory set up a consolation final against Oregon Tuesday night. Thornydale is the Arizona Champion.

Marana will play Alaska Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. in an elimination game at the Junior West Regional. Marana won the District 5 championship and the host team is one of four teams still alive including Alaska, Washington and Nevada.

Washington (3-0) and Nevada (2-0) will play at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday and the winner of Marana (2-1) and Alaska (2-1) will play the winner of Washington and Nevada Tuesday night to set up the championship round on Wednesday.

Thornydale scored seven runs in the second inning and seven more in the top of the fifth to run-rule Utah 15-2 just as the evening monsoon blew in. Rhiannon Plunkett went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI to help lead Thornydale. Marie Hoeffner went 2-4 with a home run and 3 RBI, Elizabeth Lujan went 2-4 with 2 RBI and Kaylee Busby went 2-2. Rylee Harper, Lindsey Sanchez, Kaylee Moussette and Nayana Vandersloot collected singles. Moussette picked up the victory from the circle.

MaKenna Jolley led Utah with 2 RBI and Mylee Platt had 5 strikeouts for Utah.
