Tucson High Post 7 beat Nevada 1-0 Thursday at the American Legion Western Regional taking place in Fairfield, California. Tucson (1-1) will take on the loser of California and New Mexico Friday at 4 p.m. for a shot at the semifinals.
Tucson scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning after Maddox Jones walked with the bases loaded to score Juan Hernandez, who led off the inning with a single. Jose Zepeda was hit-by-pitch to put two on and then Genaro Brito walked to load the bases. Nevada (0-2) picked up two strikeouts and then Jones went down two strikes before holding off for four balls in a row.
Hernandez went 2 for 2, and Gabriel Valencia, Isaac Ramirez and Zepeda picked up singles. Brito got the start and he collected 5 strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings and Hernandez closed out the win with 2 strikeouts. The Nevada pitchers picked up 7 strikeouts.
