The Sunnyside-Desert View “Duel in the District” rivalry game will be played Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. at Kino North Stadium to allow for more time for synthetic turf fields to be installed at the football fields of both schools.
The game was orginally slated for Sept. 2 at Desert View.
The southside rivals last played at Kino North to start the 2018 season after a severe monsoon storm rolled through Tucson causing flooding at Sunnyside’s field. The game was postponed three days and played on a Monday night at Kino North with Sunnyside winning 20-13.
Desert View has won the last two meetings and four out of the last five overall under 11-year coach Robert Bonillas, a former Nogales and Arizona football standout.
Sunnyside will be coached by Thomas Romack, who was elevated from defensive coordinator after Glenn Posey resigned during the summer.
Desert View anticipates its turf field to be installed by Sept. 30, when it hosts Flowing Wells.
Sunnyside will play its first four games on the road and christen the new field on Oct. 7 against Tucson High School.
