American Legion Western Region: Tucson advances to the semifinal round with win over New Mexico

Tucson Post 7 beat New Mexico 8-3 Friday to advance to the American Legion Western Regional held in Fairfield, California. The victory moves the team from Tucson High to the semifinal round Saturday night at 7 p.m.

Tucson (2-1) will face Texas (3-0) in the semifinals.

Tucson scored five runs in the top of second inning against New Mexico (1-2) to set the tone on Friday. Ramses Mada went 2 for 4 with a triple and 3 RBI, Genaro Brito went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, Max Leyva went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, Maddox Jones had 2 hits with an RBI, Juan Hernandez had 2 hits, Jose Zepeda picked up an RBI, Gabriel Valencia had a hit, Sebastian Contreras had a hit and an RBI and Jaden Leon walked twice and scored.

Victor Hernandez threw 5 1/3 innings and Leyva finished the game. The duo collected 5 strikeouts.

Andy was named an Honorary Flowing Wells Caballero in 2019, became a member of the Sunnyside Los Mezquites Cross Country Hall of Fame in 2021 and he was a member of the Amphi COVID-19 Blue Ribbon Committee.
