The Pac-12 has awarded Arizona with a one-two punch.
Quarterback Jayden de Laura was named Offensive Player of the Week and Jalen Harris as Defensive Lineman of the Week, after a 38-20 win at San Diego State to open the season 1-0.
De Laura had 299 passing yards and four touchdowns on 29-of-35 passing. Harris made eight tackles and one sack to help the defense hold SDSU to 62 yards passing and 189 total yards rushing. De Laura improved to 6-0 in his collegiate career when throwing three-plus touchdowns. The four touchdown passes are the most by an Arizona quarterback in their Wildcats debut since Anu Solomon threw four against UNLV in 2014.
The sophomore from Honolulu, Hawaii, threw four touchdown passes to two different players. Three to newcomer Jacob Cowing and one to freshman Tetairoa McMillan. De Laura’s four touchdown passes tied Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. for the conference lead after Week 1. His 299 yards passing were the third among quarterbacks in the Pac-12. During his career (17 games), de Laura is second in the Pac-12 in total offense, averaging 239.88 yards per game.
Arizona opens its home schedule on Saturday, Sept. 10, against Mississippi State, with kickoff set for 8 p.m. on FS1.
