4A-6A power ratings: Southern Arizona presently with only three schools in playoff position

AIA power ratings as of Tues., Nov. 8 for Class 4A to 6A schools. Class 1A-3A teams are in their state playoffs. Top 10 for all other classes listed with Southern Arizona teams shown up to No. 25 in each ranking. Southern Arizona teams in bold.

4A

— CDO remains at No. 2 for the third straight week, which is important because if the Dorados finish in the top two spots, they can possibly host a playoff game in the first round, quarterfinals and semifinals. They also would not play No. 1 ALA-Gilbert North until the title game.

— Walden Grove has fallen five spots to No. 17 (and out of the top 16 playoff spots) in the last two weeks despite blowout wins over Amphi and Sahuarita, teams that are a combined 1-18. The Red Wolves, however, do have a respectable schedule overall with games against No. 2 CDO, No. 13 AZ College Prep (which at one time was at No. 1 spot), No. 25 Pueblo (6-4) and 5A No. 30 team Mountain VIew (which is vying for the 5A Southern title).

— No. 20 Catalina Foothills has an outside chance to make the 16-team playoff field by defeating Walden Grove on Friday and earning the 4A Gila regional title. The Red Wolves will be in a good spot by defeating Catalina Foothills and winning the region title.

5A

— Marana stayed at No. 8, which means the Tigers would host the first round matchup but would potentially have to play at No. 1 seed ALA-Queen Creek in the quarterfinals.

— Cienega’s overtime loss at Mountain View on Friday was costly to the Bobcats getting into the playoffs after falling from No. 16 to No. 20. The Bobcats must defeat visiting Tucson High on Thursday to keep their faint hopes of making the state tournament field.

— No. 25 Desert View and No. 30 Mountain View are playing for the 5A Southern title on Thursday without a likely chance to make the state playoffs. If the Mountain Lions win, they are the region champs. If Desert View wins and Cienega loses to Tucson, the Jaguars will bring home the region title. If Cienega beats Tucson High and Mountain View loses to Desert View, the Bobcats are the champs.
