Gallego Intermediate defeated Challenger 70-29 on Thursday night to claim the Sunnyside Unified School District middle-school boys basketball title at Desert View High School.
Coach Brooks Newsome’s team was led by its strong perimeter play that included contributions from Isaac Mendele, Alexis Laguna-Pesquiera, Julian Gonzalez and Nino Sanchez.
Mendele was the leading scorer with 27 points.
