Noteworthy: Catalina Foothills is off to a 9-2 start behind senior Reilly Clark (23.6 points per game) sophomore Clara Mae-Hrouch (15.4 points per game). … Senior captain Katie Burns will lead by being another coach and inspirational figure. She tore her ACL during the summer and is out this season. She has signed with Pima and will resume her career next season with coach Todd Holthaus. … Catalina Foothills is with its third coach in the last four years. Jake Martinez follows Sue Darling and Eric Nelson. … Martinez earned a Master of Arts and Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology at New Mexico State. He hails from Silver City, N.M. He was awarded an Air Force ROTC Scholarship to the University of New Mexico where he graduated with a BA in Communication and Journalism in 1999. Served on active duty for six years as a transportation and logistics officer. He served one overseas tour in England and one combat tour in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He has separated from active duty in 2005. … He was accepted into the graduate speech-language pathology program at New Mexico State in 2006. He focused his graduate studies on Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) with a focus on treating veterans with mild and moderate TBIs. Jake graduated with a MA in speech-language pathology in 2009 from New Mexico State University. He completed his Clinical Fellowship at the Rehabilitation Hospital of Southern New Mexico. He worked at the Loma Linda Veterans Hospital in Loma Linda, Calif., where he gained experience treating veterans with head and neck cancer, laryngectomees, TBI, Parkinson’s disease and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). … He owns Phase Zero Therapy in Tucson.

They embrace hard work and discipline with a different understanding. It’s as if they know the more they work together and bond as a team, the easier the games become. The joy and energy that this team plays with make them exciting to watch.”
