Tucson High standout Gabriella Sanchez scored 34 points in a 65-29 win over Rincon/University Thursday night to reach exactly 1,000 career points. The victory kept the Badgers undefeated at 2-0 in the 6A South Region with Sunnyside (2-0) coming in on Tuesday night for the lead in the region. Sanchez is a 6-foot-1 center who is averaging 24 points a game this year.
Sahuaro standout AJ Bonapart has 980 career points. Bonapart is projected to break 1,000 career points against canyon del Oro at home on Jan. 30.
