CDO grad Kiko Romero hits 2 HRs, produces 6 RBIs in Arizona’s rout of Cal to open Pac-12 play

Arizona extended its winning streak to seven games Friday night with a 13-2 win over California in the first of a three-game series at Hi Corbett Field to open the Pac-12 season for both teams.

Arizona (10-3) will host Cal (8-4) in the second game of the series Saturday at 1 p.m.

Infielders Kiko Romero and Garen Caulfield combined to drive in 10 of the Wildcats’ 13 runs.

Romero, a CDO grad who has four home runs in his last four games, went 4 for 4 with a two home runs, a triple, five runs and six RBIs.

Caulfield also hit a home run and drove in two more on a fifth-inning double.

Starting pitcher TJ Nichols went 6 2/3 innings and tied his career-high with nine strikeouts to 3-0.

Right-hander Dawson Netz and southpaw Eric Orloff worked the remaining 2 1/3 innings and held Cal scoreless. Orloff went two innings with three strikeouts and two hits allowed.

Cameron LaLiberte was 2 for 5 with a double and an RBI and Nik McClaughry was 1 for 3 with three runs.
