Information for this report provided by the Arizona media-relations department:
No. 17 Arizona defeated No. 22 Arizona State, 9-0, in Tempe on Friday night, achieving the 100th win against the rival Sun Devils in program history.
Arizona (16-6) was swept last year by ASU (15-4) at Hillenbrand Stadium, two of them by run-rule and the other a 9-2 final score, so the Wildcats had to wait two seasons for that 100th win.
Devyn Netz improved to 8-5, striking out six batters and allowing only four hits in the complete-game shutout.
The Wildcats scored nine runs on 10 hits in the Pac-12 opener for both teams.
