Desert View senior catcher/pitcher Diego Pinedo signed with Cochise College on Tuesday. Pinedo leads the Jaguars in home runs (4), doubles (13), hits (34) and batting average (.459). Pinedo also has two victories on the mound with a team-leading 34 strikeouts.

“It’s a new chapter and it means I can’t settle up,” Pinedo said. “Gotta work harder.”

No. 17 Desert View qualified for the 5A Conference Play-In Tournament and the Jaguars will travel to play No. 16 Cienega Wednesday at 4 p.m. This will be the first postseason appearance for Desert View since 2007.

“Seeing Diego sign to college fills my heart with joy and pride, both for me and our entire coaching staff,” head coach Matt Gracia said. “This is the very reason we coach. Having the opportunity to witness Diego’s growth throughout his high school career has been truly incredible. His hard work and dedication are now paying off, and I couldn’t be more thrilled and proud of his accomplishments.”
