Tucson over Sunnyside, 3-0

No. 9 Tucson High improved to 12-3 in power-ranking matches after the Badgers beat No. 30 Sunnyside in straight sets (25-11, 25-12, 25-18) Tuesday night at home. Tucson won the 6A South Region for the first time since 2019 under head coach Amanda Larriva.

The Badgers will host 5A No. 10 Ironwood Ridge (11-4) Thursday night to end the regular season. The 6A Play-In Tournament is slated for Tuesday, May 2 but the Badgers still have a shot at a top-eight ranking and an automatic berth to the state playoffs set to start on Friday, May 5.

No. 3 Cienega (15-0) won the 5A Southern Region, No. 19 Sabino (11-3) won the 4A Kino Region and No. 5 Salpointe (16-1) won the 4A Gila Region.

6A Conference playoff teams include Tucson, No. 12 Rincon/University (8-6) and No. 15 Marana (9-5). 5A Conference playoff teams include Cienega, Ironwood Ridge, No. 12 Catalina Foothills (11-5) and No. 17 Mountain View (8-8), 4A Conference playoff teams include Salpointe, No. 11 Flowing Wells (13-2) and Sabino. No. 25 Canyon del Oro (8-9) still has a chance to move into the top 24 in the 4A Conference.

The Play-In Brackets should be released on Friday.
