Tucson High’s baseball team is seeded No. 2 in the 6A state tournament after winning nine of its last 11 games and one of the Badgers’ top players is only a sophomore — Gennaro Brito — with highly productive numbers.
Brito, a left-hander, is third in Arizona with a 1.19 ERA. He has struck out 53 batters while walking 19 in 41 1/3 innings.
He also has 37 stolen bases, which ranks seventh in the state. He is batting .291 with 31 runs and 10 RBIs.
His strong performance, especially in the month of April, merits him the Jet Sports Training Male Athlete of the Month.
